Our Caretaker Program
Partnering with local families to provide a spoiled pet life.
At Cavalier Obsession, our dogs aren’t just a part of our business—they are our absolute therapy, our family, and the center of our world. Because we are deeply committed to their health, happiness, and socialization, we refuse to operate a traditional kennel environment. Every dog deserves a couch to sleep on, a specific human to shadow, and a home where they are the center of attention.
To balance our passion for breeding genetically healthy, top-quality Cavaliers with our belief that every dog deserves a spoiled pet life, we partner with amazing local families through our Caretaker (Guardianship) Program.

How It Works
A Caretaker arrangement is a beautiful, cooperative team effort. We provide a premier puppy or young adult Cavalier chosen specifically for outstanding temperament, conformation, and health. You provide the day-to-day love, structure, and spoiling as their permanent family pet.
While Cavalier Obsession retains ownership and breeding rights for a specified, limited period, the dog lives a normal, pampered life in your home from day one. Once their breeding career is fully complete, official ownership is signed over to you, and they live out the rest of their days exactly where they belong—on your couch.
The Partnership Breakdown
⚠️ Before You Apply: To ensure the safety, comfort, and seamless coordination of our breeding cycles, all Caretaker families must reside within a reasonable driving distance (typically within 1 to 1.5 hours) of our home base in Creedmoor, NC. If you meet this requirement and are ready to provide a spoiled couch-potato life to a premier Cavalier, please fill out the application below!
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an upfront cost to join the Caretaker Program?
There is no purchase price for the puppy or adult dog itself. You are welcoming a premier, top-tier Cavalier into your home at no upfront cost. However, you are fully responsible for the normal day-to-day financial expenses of raising a cherished pet, including high-quality food, grooming, and standard supplies.
How long does the dog remain in the breeding program?
For Females: They typically retire after a limited number of litters (usually 3 to 4 maximum), keeping their lifetime physical health and emotional well-being as our absolute priority. For Males: They remain in the program for a few years longer, but their commitments only involve brief, temporary visits to us for breeding appointments rather than extended stays. Once their career is complete, the dog is spayed or neutered, and full legal ownership is officially signed over to you permanently.
What happens when a female dog is ready to have her puppies?
She will come back to stay with us roughly one week prior to her expected due date so she can safely settle into her whelping environment. She will remain with us to nurse and raise her litter until the puppies are fully weaned (typically 6 to 8 weeks total). Caretakers are always welcome to arrange scheduled visits to see her and snuggle the newborns during her stay!
Who is responsible for veterinary expenses?
The Caretaker Pays For: All routine preventative care. This includes annual checkups, routine vaccinations, monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, and any standard illnesses or unexpected accidents unrelated to breeding. Cavalier Obsession Pays For: All specialized health testing, veterinary clearances, and reproductive medical care directly associated with the breeding, pregnancy, and whelping processes.
How far away can a Caretaker family live?
Because safe, timely transportation is essential when a breeding cycle or health check is required, our Caretaker families must reside within a reasonable driving distance (typically within 1 to 1.5 hours) of our home base in Creedmoor NC.
Can we choose the dog's everyday name?
Absolutely! We want this dog to feel entirely like your family pet, so you choose the everyday "call name" they answer to. We only handle the official AKC registration name used for show and breeding records.
