Our Caretaker Program
A loving home. A shared commitment.
My Cavaliers are family, and I want each one to enjoy the attention, companionship, and everyday routines that make a house feel like home. Caretaker homes allow me to continue raising quality Cavaliers for other families while keeping the number of dogs living in my own home manageable. Each dog gets a family to love and the individual attention they deserve.
I will consider a caretaker arrangement when the right family and Cavalier are a good match.
Life as a caretaker family
A friendship built on trust
For me, this needs to be a friendship built on trust, respect, and open communication. We’ll be part of each other’s lives, so it’s important that we feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and staying in touch. My care requirements and the caretaker agreement must be followed, with the dog’s well-being at the center of everything we do.
Everyday life in your home
I will consider families whose daily routines allow a Cavalier to be included as a loved member of the household, with regular grooming, gentle training, and plenty of companionship.
Dogs live inside your home and may not be left alone or crated for more than three hours at a time, except while sleeping.
Caretaker families provide food and supplements approved by me and cover everyday expenses and medical care unrelated to breeding. This includes arranging annual veterinary examinations, keeping vaccinations current, and making medical records available to me.
Visits and time with me
I coordinate breeding arrangements and take responsibility for raising the puppies in my home. You’ll provide transportation for breeding-related stays and keep me informed about your dog’s health, behavior, routine, and nutritional needs.
For females, you’ll let me know as soon as she comes into heat. There are separate stays for breeding and for having puppies. A breeding stay is generally around a week. She then returns to your home before coming back to me on the arranged date for delivery.
She stays with me while nursing and raising her puppies, until they are fully weaned. I provide all litter care, and caretaker families do not receive payment for the puppies.
Before placement, we’ll discuss transportation, time away from home, and the arrangements for the individual dog. Male Cavaliers have different visiting arrangements, which we’ll discuss separately.
A commitment we discuss together
Ownership and official paperwork remain in my name until the agreement has been fulfilled. We’ll discuss the length of the commitment and arrangements for completing the program before placement.
The goal is for each Cavalier to remain with the family they know and love once their commitments are complete.
Close enough to stay connected
Caretaker families should live within approximately 1–1.5 hours of Creedmoor, North Carolina, have a securely fenced yard, and have enough flexibility to coordinate appointments and visits.
If circumstances change
If either of us feels the arrangement is no longer working, the dog must return as soon as possible under the caretaker agreement. Ending the arrangement does not include compensation or reimbursement.
We’ll review the full responsibilities together before placement so expectations are clear.
